About this tour

This walk is about the history of the Greek LGBTQ movement. We are going to visit the places where the most important events of the movement took place. We will see places like the one that back in 80s trans women used to work as sex workers. You will get to know unpublished stories about the past while walking down the main avenue of Athens where the most important protests of the movement happened. We are going to follow the route of Athens Pride march and go to the place where the offices of the first Gay Organization and magazine were located back in 70s. At the end you will get to know the true events of a recent crime that happened against a known activist.

NOTE: Feel free to join my other experiences too and request your best suitable hour:

Mary was a great host and tour guide. She was fun, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the LGBT community/history along with general history of Greece for our many questions. I highly recommend this walking tour for anyone interested.

What was a 1.5 hour walk to grasp the history of the lgbtqi people struggle in Athens, turned to a potential network of solidarity in rights of lgbtqi people between countries! Even a potential collaboration in a project!!!! Add to that, Mary weaved the history eloquently into the history of Athens, from the elections, economic crisis and all the way into Covid. Many stories to be told in this walk, and the fight for rights continues, and these stories will keep finding voice through Mary and others who roar! And always always #justiceforzak/ zackie

Mary has a great storytelling ability and pulls you into the atmosphere of the LGBTQ movement’s past and present, syncing key points with the actual places on the walk. Highly recommended for members of the community and allies alike, but also for all those who wish to learn about the point of view of marginalised communities.
