They say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. But some places are really awful. Want to see a different side of Athens? You’re in the right place!
You will find a contrasting city, with a totally different cultural and social character, and another topography. Bustling places where tourists and immigrants, street vendors, and passers-by bump into each other, passing through it in a rush. This mix of cultural diversity and mirror of social “disorder”.
Ungentrified and lively, the oldest limb of the modern metropolis—an area where no-frills Greek classics sit next to ethnic eats, 60s office blocks, and old printing presses. Not Athens’ prettiest face.
Godforsaken places and a lot of urban decay: awful can be awesome. Dare to see it.
Discover one of the most controversial and offbeat areas of Athens – only for true explorers.

Frequently asked questions
In this part of town (Victoria, Aghios Panteleimonas, Metaxourgeio, and Omonia) for modern adventurers, immigrants, and destroyed bodies and souls; you will find old decrepit neoclassical houses as well as some scattered “alternative” (as they style themselves) entertainment venues, which seem to be trying to forcibly change the identity of those areas. In the end, we'll visit completely gentrified Pysri, to see how the future looks like.

Probably was to be the highlight of our experience in Athens- or at least an integral part of our trip. I went with my partner on this tour, and there was a great group of people. This was our first full day in Athens. We went to the Acropolis and Plaka area in the morning which was beautiful but obviously full of tourists. Then we went to this tour and saw another view of Athens. No city is perfect and the tour highlighted the reality of a lot of people living in the city and how it got to that point. It was illuminating, and you can tell that Isaac has a deep knowledge and passion for his subject. It’s not a pretty tour and he never claims it to be, but if you want to have a unique perspective and experience book it. It was thought provoking, I went with my partner. We went to dinner afterwards and talked through the night about everything we learned and our perspectives on it. Hope to do his other tours next time I am in the city.
If you are interested in politics, and social issues and you like to see a different side of Athens, this is your tour. Isaac is very friendly and knowledgeable. He showed parts of the city I would normally not visit so easily. He made me look beyond the tourist layer of the city. And last but not least, I got to know where to get some food falafel so that’s where I bought lunch for on the road some days later ;).
Real gritty experience of Athens. Very insightful walk through of migration patterns, insights into Greek social policy and how social changes happen. Brilliant for a second day after seeing the Athens they want you to see!
