Highly recommend this tour if you want to understand Jakarta and Indonesia better. It covers some of the main sights but it is (as indicated) not a sightseeing tour. Ardra was a very knowledgeable and patient guide and took us through the key parts of Indonesia’s history from colonial times to recent developments in politics and in the city itself, as well as answering our questions. Based on his background in political science, he was also able to offer a more in-depth perspective on the current social, political and economic situation. On a more personal level, Ardra was also happy to share a bit on how life is like for the regular Jakartan. Overall, it gave me a better appreciation of the complexity in Indonesia, and also some of its hopes for the future.
