Go to the Acropolis and wander around Plaka on day one for your ancient history fix. But save day two (or three) for this tour if you want to learn about the dynamic living history of Athens happening right before your eyes (and under your feet). I had read a lot about modern Athens before my trip and it was powerful to see my book learning reflected accurately in the streets. It was very illuminating and thought provoking. Isaac is knowledgeable and entertaining (in short, “a good guy”). If you’re used to the complexities and grittiness of urban centers make sure to ask for the “extra spicy” option.

I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see something in Athens besides the tourist sites. It is not only interesting but also important. Yitzhak is an excellent guide, knowledgeable about the topics he guides about and funny.

Wow - what an education! I highly recommend taking a walking tour with Isaac. We spent 3 hours learning about the historical context of politics in Greece and how this history is reverberating today with it’s neighbors (Albania, Turkey) and why the economy is so fraught with corruption. We also learned a great deal about the recent past political players, the complex relationship of The Church/State, and the grievances of everyday Greeks.
