About this tour

Indonesia is a massive archipelago home to more than 250 million people, half of whom are under 30 years old. It is also the most populous Muslim country in the world and boasts a diverse range of ethnicities, cultures, and languages. However, despite its impressive size and diversity, Indonesia still struggles with major social inequalities, with some citizens living in modern, tech-savvy cities while others don’t even have access to electricity.

Despite its challenges, Indonesia is a country to watch out for, and its rise to power will have significant social, political, and economic implications. So go ahead and get ready to see this country make waves on the world stage.

This interactive storytelling walk is meant to have the flow and information-heavy experience of a documentary. It takes us into a comprehensive analysis, providing surprising answers.

It highlights the social and political elements of Indonesia, from the creation of the Indonesian state to modern times. We’ll address both historical and current events from a balanced & non-biased point of view to help you determine your views of this land for yourself.

The experience is aimed at people with a genuine interest in politics and those keen to learn more about the situation in Indonesia by conducting some first-hand research.

Mr. Mar’ie was my host for this tour and he was fantastic! He answered all my (many many) questions and shared his insights into not just the places we saw but contemporary Indonesia and Jakarta more broadly. I’m a political scientist so I have high standards for this sort of thing and they were exceeded!

We took a walk with Mar'ie and had a very pleasant time. We learnt a lot about Jakarta and Indonesia. Mar'ie had perfect English and explained everything with interest and intelligence. The tour was a really personalised discussion and we are really glad we took this experience.
