Walking with Lila and listening to her tell us about the history of her city was very nice: we heard a very interesting insight into the history of the last years of Argentina that we could hardly have experienced as simple tourists. The activity is absolutely recommended!

Fantastic tour

This afternoon we met up with a local political scientist and journalist named Lila. We walked all around the city with her as she explained the history of Argentina, focusing mostly on the past hundred years but reaching further back when needed for context. She spoke impeccable English and had an incredible depth of knowledge about history, politics, economics, and social issues. She helped us understand not only Buenos Aires and Argentina, but also how the country fits into the larger global picture. We gained so much perspective from her, including insight into how current hyperinflation and austerity measures under President Milei affect her personally. We also learned about the structure of Argentina’s government, its political parties, and the ways they are similar to and differ meaningfully from our own system. It was a fascinating and meaningful part of our time in Buenos Aires, and we all came away seeing the city through a more informed and thoughtful lens.
